How movements matter

Protest movements are sometimes the driving force in the transformation of societies. Frances Fox Piven's keynote will examine how movements siceed in penetrating the fog generated by dominant political discourse and how they sometimes wield sufficient poweror leverage by disrupting insitutional relationships.

Frances Fox Piven is an American professor of political science and sociology at The Graduate Center, City University of New York, where she has taught since 1982

The 2014 Encuentro

From June 21 to 28, 2014, scholars, artists, activists and students will unite in Montreal to investigate the aesthetic, social, and choreographic techniques that transform political ideas into collective images, through actions, embodied utterances and ways of being.
