Title: Exploring the Interaction Space of Computer Graphics and Computer Vision

ABSTRACT

Computer Graphics (CG) and Computer Vision (CV) are often considered the inverses of each other: CG produces image data from models, while CV produces models from image data. I am convinced that both CV and CG can benefit from each other, and that exploring their interaction space provides exciting research opportunities and opens a wide range of novel applications. In this talk, I will present some of our projects exploring this space, and hope to convince you about the great potential of combining techniques and concepts of CV and CG.

In particular, I will present our work on scene-space video processing (SIGGRAPH 2015), music retargeting for video temporal resizing (Eurographics 2013), as well as synchronization and blending of facial performance videos (ICCV 2015).

BIO

Dr. Jean-Charles Bazin is an Associate Research Scientist at Disney Research Zurich, and also an adjunct lecturer at ETH Zurich. Before joining Disney Research, Jean-Charles was a Postdoc and a Senior Researcher (“Oberassistent”) jointly in the Computer Vision and Geometry Group of Prof. Marc Pollefeys and in the Computer Graphics Laboratory of Prof. Markus Gross at ETH Zurich (2011-2014). He also worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Computer Vision Laboratory of Prof. Katsushi Ikeuchi, University of Tokyo, Japan (2010/2011). He received an MS in Computer Science from Université de Technologie de Compiègne, France (2006) and a PhD in the Robotics and Computer Vision Laboratory, KAIST, South Korea (2011). He published several papers in both computer vision (TPAMI, CVPR, ICCV, and ECCV) and computer graphics (SIGGRAPH, SIGGRAPH Asia and Eurographics). His research interest is the exploration of the convergence of computer vision and computer graphics.
