Abstract

Year after year the number and sophistication of cyber-attacks is increasing, yet we see no clear signs in the industry for a needed change in the rules of the security arms race.  A review of main attacks observed today from Points of Sale to mobile end points – and everything in between – illustrates the breadth covered by hackers and the massive exposure of the connected world.  Surprisingly, it is generally admitted that vulnerabilities are so pervasive that current security models have reached their limits.  However FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt) still seems to prevail in our approach to security today.  While waiting for the emergence of a radically new and needed security paradigm, a number of paths should urgently be explored.
