Orange Shirt Day Team at the Concordia Shuffle

For the second year in a row, members of the Applied Human Sciences Department will be participating in the Concordia Shuffle as Team Orange Shirt Day. Their goal is to raise awareness for Orange Shirt Day, which takes place on September 30th in order to recognize survivors of the residential school system. This year, Team Orange Shirt Day will also be raising funds for a new Indigenous entrance Scholarship.

Vicky Boldo Attending National Gathering of Elders

This September, Concordia's Vicky Boldo will be attending the first National Gathering of Elders in Edmonton Alberta.

Kwe, sago, tånisi, watchiye, quanuippit –

As we embark on a new academic year I would like to share a few words with the students, staff and faculty;

Humility is a wonderful teacher as are the students at ASRC for their vote of confidence in me to provide them with cultural support and encouragement. We were ‘gifted’ with a small window of opportunity to get to know each other a little better last spring.

I look forward to being a part of the full academic year and being present on a more regular basis in order that we all get time and space to learn and share together. As a community leader and advocate for the youth I am a strong believer that we live in a time where it is essential that we listen attentively to our youth and encourage them to speak, share and create. This empowers them to become free and critical thinkers, leaders and community members.

On September 10-14 I will have the pleasure and immense honour of attending the National Gathering of Elders on Treaty Six Territory at the Edmonton Expo Centre. Thank you to the IDLG and the office of the Dean of Students for making this possible. Imagine being in a space with three to four thousand Elders from all corners of Turtle Island. Sharing ideas and knowledge for the future generations…Stay tuned for the sharing of my lived experience…

Vicky Boldo

Mandate of the Indigenous Directions Leadership Group

Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President, Academic Affairs with a three-year mandate, the Indigenous Directions Leadership Group will explore, identify and recommend priority areas in which Concordia can improve its responsiveness to the Truth and Reconciliation’s (TRC) Principles for Reconciliation and Calls to Action.

At the end of its mandate, the group will have ideally also provided input and recommendations on the creation of administrative and governance frameworks that will support these efforts going forward.
