The invitation provided an opportunity for the pioneers to meet. Gina Cody, MEng 81, PhD 89, is the first woman to complete her PhD in building engineering at Concordia, while Valérie Plante is the first woman to become mayor of Montreal.

Cody was notably invited in recognition of her $15-million landmark gift Concordia to help students, women and minorities fulfill their dreams at Concordia’s newly christened Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science — Canada’s first engineering faculty named after a woman.

The city hall delegation included Concordia President Alan Shepard as well as Amir Asif, dean of the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science.
