Just over one in five board seats in Canada are held by women today, yet that is likely to change since women’s enrolment in business schools continues to climb.

To mark International Women’s Day, the John Molson School of Business Alumni Chapter (JMAC), in partnership with the International Women’s Forum (IWF) — a network of 6,200 female leaders in 34 countries —, will host an exclusive networking event, She Talks Dinner: International Women’s Day.

Jamie Orchard, BA 91, senior anchor of Global News Montreal, will conduct the keynote interview with Mary-Anne Carignan, president of healthcare solutions provider Purkinje Inc. Carignan will discuss her 17-year career in trade and corporate finance and client management, which has taken her across the globe to Switzerland, Zagreb, Croatia and Belgium.

“International Women’s Day reminds us of how far we’ve come, but also of how much work there is to do,” says Orchard. “As a woman making her way in what was a massively a male-dominated industry 25 years ago, one of the most important things I have learned is that women must support and encourage each other.”

“The evening will provide access to many prominent prominent Montreal business women — and we’re hoping men and women will join us for this great networking opportunity,” says Danielle Ker, MBA 14, a lecturer in Concordia’s Department of Management and member of the JMAC executive board.

“We’re all really excited about giving back to the community,” Ker says. A silent auction will raise funds for Logifem, a Montreal shelter for women in difficulty. Donation boxes for women’s and children’s toiletry items will also be on site.

  • She Talks Dinner will take place Thursday, March 10, 2016, 6 p.m., at Branzino Restaurant, 1800 Sherbrooke St. W., Montreal. Learn more and register
