COVID-19 physical-distancing measures have significantly shifted operations for many sectors, including community groups and charities. Organizations that rely heavily on large event-based fundraisers have had to get creative about how to reach their much-needed donors.

CASA Cares is a non-profit segment of the Commerce and Administration Student Association at Concordia. Its goal is to improve people’s lives and encourage student involvement through fundraising events. The McGill Pediatric Fundraising Team consists of medical students who aim to gather donations and spread awareness about childhood cancer.

The two have partnered to raise money in support of the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation by hosting a fundraising movie night at the Royalmount Drive-in Event Theatre in Montreal on July 18.

All proceeds will go directly toward the foundation to further support families of sick children and help them get the care they need.

2 teen comedy classics

The groups will be screening two movies at the event, called Revivin’ the Drive-in: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (6 p.m.) and Mean Girls (9 p.m.). Doors will open before each movie, at 5 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. respectively.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual CASA Cares fashion show, which usually collects large sums of donations for the foundation, had to be cancelled. That prompted the idea for an event that would be enjoyable for family and friends, while respecting distancing measures and supporting the important cause.

Tickets are sold on a per show basis depending on the number of people in a vehicle. The price is $30 for one or two people and $50 for three or more. A limited number of VIP parking spots are also available for $60 each.

Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite and separate donations toward the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation can be made directly through the event fundraising page.

There are also raffle prizes available and businesses are encouraged to participate.
