When it comes to young universities in Canada, Concordia is in a league of its own.

The university is the only Canadian institution included in the newly released 2019 QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) Top 50 Under 50 Rankings.

The rankings include 150 of the world’s leading universities founded after 1968. Concordia placed in the 61-70 range — second among the three universities in North America that made the list.

The QS Top 50 Under 50 Rankings assess each university’s performance in teaching and research in light of their age and resources. The rankings include universities founded or established in the last 50 years that appear in the QS World University Rankings.

Concordia placed among the top 46 per cent worldwide in the 2019 edition of the QS World University Rankings.

As it did in the world rankings, QS recognized Concordia for its proportion of international faculty and students. The university also increased its score and placed well in citations per faculty.

“As a young institution, we can all take great pride in how well we place among our peers — as well as among all the world’s universities, not just the newer ones,” says Graham Carr, Concordia’s provost and vice-president of Academic Affairs.

“The recognition of our faculty citations also reflects our emphasis on advancing our research, as spelled out in our nine strategic directions, and confirms that we indeed continue to make great advances in that area.”
