1.  Ring in the year of the dog

Chinese New Year l Réseau Accès culture l Maison Brignon-Dit-Lapierre l February 21 at 7 p.m.

The Chinese lunar new year starts on February 16, kicking off 15 days of festivities. This year, every dog has his day. That’s right, 2018 is the year of man’s best friend! Learn about the Chinese zodiac and discover how the new lunar year is being celebrated in Montreal.

2.  It's a snow party!

Fêtes des neiges l Parc Jean-Drapeau l Weekends until February 11

Fêtes des neiges is back for its 35th edition, offering Montrealers a chance to enjoy a plethora of snowy activities. Watch ice sculptors work their magic, board an ice ship, go dog sledding, catch a show or just enjoy the view from the Tour de Lévis.

3.  Have an artsy Valentine’s Day

The Curtain Sweeps Down | Art exhibit | VOX Centre de l’image contemporaine | Opens February 14 at 6 p.m.

Toronto artist Erdem Taşdelen’s first solo exhibit in Montreal opens on Valentine’s Day. “The Curtain Sweeps Down” explores the story behind the Turkish novel Genç Kızlar (Young Girls). Through a combination of sound, photography, painting and text, Taşdelen explores how society mutes some voices and amplifies others.

4. Listen to world rhythms

La Grande Rendez-vous des rythmes du monde 2018 | Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme, Place des Arts | February 23 and 24 at 4 p.m.

5.  The art of growing up

Camille Durand Gauthier: Spectrum | Art exhibit | Monument-National | Vernissage: February 22 at 6 p.m.

From repulsion to attraction, Camille Durand Gauthier’s “Spectrum” revolves around puberty and its myriad representations and symbols. Gauthier, an interdisciplinary artist affiliated with Concordia’s Studio Arts, uses photography and fibres to explore what it means to come of age.
