Loyola Campus reopens Aug. 24, power restored

Update, as of 9 p.m. August 23: Power is restored to the Loyola Campus.  The campus reopens Aug. 24; all regular activities will resume as scheduled.

We wish to thank the members of the Loyola community for their cooperation and understanding.

Update, as of 2:30 p.m. August 23: Tonight’s NCAA men’s basketball game between Concordia and Northeastern University has been moved to Dawson College due to the power failure that is still affecting the Loyola Campus.

Dawson College is located at 4001 De Maisonneuve Blvd. W. The venue is accessible from the Atwater metro station.

Update, as of 7 a.m. August 23: The Loyola Campus remains closed today due to a power failure, which occurred yesterday because of a severe thunderstorm. No damage has been reported and only emergency power is currently available.

However, all buildings remain closed, including the Vanier Library. All library materials (including equipment such as laptops and tablets) that were due today (August 23) are now due on August 24.

For faculty and staff who work on the Loyola Campus, you are not required to report to work. However, certain employees who are needed to provide emergency and essential services may be requested to come into work and will be contacted directly by their supervisors.

The SGW Campus remains open today. The shuttle bus will continue to operate between the two campuses.

Updates will be provided throughout the day.

Update, as of 9 p.m.: Concordia is waiting for confirmation about when full power will be restored to the Loyola Campus. An update will be posted on the Concordia website (concordia.ca) no later than 7 a.m., Wed. Aug. 23 on whether the Loyola Campus will re-open for normal activities that day. The SGW Campus remains open.

Update, as of 6:10 p.m.: As of 6:00 p.m., emergency power was restored to the Loyola Campus; however, all buildings are closed for the evening, including the Vanier Library, the Recreation Building and the PERFORM Centre. 

Activities scheduled tonight (Tuesday, August 22) in the Recreation Building and arena have been cancelled.

More updates to follow.

Update, as of 5:10 p.m.: Concordia is waiting to receive an update on when power will be restored to the Loyola Campus (note: Recreation Building and PERFORM Centre are not affected). Steps are being taken to provide back-up power to critical research equipment. More information will follow.

Update, as of 4:33 p.m.: Evacuation order issued for buildings on Loyola Campus affected by power failure: SP, GE, CJ, PY, and VE. Vanier Library will remain closed for the evening and will reopen tomorrow morning, usual hours of operation.

A power failure on the Loyola Campus, as result of the thunderstorm, has resulted in the evacuation of the Vanier Library. Concordia is currently working to have generators provide power to certain areas.

There are no classes or exams taking place at Loyola Campus. Therefore, there are no academic activities affected.

The Recreation Building and PERFORM Centre are not affected.
