The big day is almost here.

More than 2,400 students are eligible to receive their degrees, diplomas and certificates at Concordia’s fall 2018 convocation ceremonies on November 19.

Five new honorands will address the graduating class, as well as four valedictorians and two winners of the Governor General’s Academic Medals.

Thousands of proud mothers, fathers, siblings and children will also fill Place des Arts with cheers for the class of 2018.

Here are six tips for the families of new Concordia graduates.

1. Bring your ticket

Each guest requires a ticket to enter Place des Arts. Tickets will be distributed to them at gown distribution. Make sure every member of your party has a ticket when you show up at the ceremony. Children aged five and under do not require a ticket if they're sitting on the lap of a ticket holder.

2. Show up early

Convocating students are asked to arrive an hour and 15 minutes before the ceremony; they are then ushered to a non-public area to prepare.

For families, the schedule is slightly different: the doors at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier open 45 minutes before the event starts. (Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.)

Still — it's only a difference of 30 minutes, so why not arrive all together?

3. Get there without stressing

Check out these helpful directions to Place des Arts on the Concordia website.

4. Dress up

There's no dress code, of course. But this is a celebration and bear in mind that convocation gowns are open and your clothing will show!

5. Student-parents: bring another adult

Are you a graduating student-parent? Your kids must be so proud! Don't forget to invite another responsible adult so they can enjoy the ceremony, too.

6. Take photos

Don’t be shy — this is a once-in-a-lifetime event! And be sure to share your thoughts and photos on social media: #CUgrad and #CUalumni.
