UPDATE – Wednesday, May 24 at 3:30 p.m.: The Loyola campus electrical upgrades are now expected to be complete by early afternoon on Thursday, May 25. As a result, the original project schedule has changed. A three-hour electrical shutdown will now take place on Thursday morning between 5:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. in the following buildings:

  • Administrative Building (AD)
  • Central Building (CC)
  • Psychology Building (PY)
  • Communication Studies and Journalism Building (CJ)
  • Hingston Hall (HA, HB, HC)

Completing an electrical upgrading project that has been underway for the past year, several buildings on Loyola campus will be closed for power upgrades for five consecutive days, from Monday, May 22 to Friday, May 26. Project updates will be provided via social media and power is expected to return early Friday afternoon.

Affected buildings include Physical Service (PS), Student Centre (SC), the Oscar Peterson Concert Hall (PT), Vanier Library (VL) and the Vanier Extension (VE). For safety reasons access to these buildings will not be granted except to project personnel during this time. A security agent will be touring the premises to ensure fire safety measures are met and to prevent access to unauthorized personnel.

Faculty and staff are urged to properly shutdown their computers and electronic equipment on Friday, May 19 to avoid any issues linked to power fluctuations. Kitchenette fridges should be emptied as well.

This project is being undertaken to update obsolete infrastructure and will add electrical capacity, increase efficiency and provide more reliable service across campus.

The timing of this shutdown has been carefully evaluated to ensure the least possible disruption. Classes taking place in these buildings will be temporarily relocated during the shutdown week. For questions, please contact your respective departments and instructors.

The Loyola office of Environmental Health and Safety will be closed during this time period. Should you require their assistance please contact 514-848-2424 ext. 4877.
