Justin Powlowski: “We’re helping free up valuable time to actually do research.”

For the second year, Concordia’s Office of the Vice-President, Research and Graduate Studies and Office of Research are offering clinics to faculty in support of research-grant and contract administration.

The clinics, scheduled for May 2 and May 3, are designed to encourage face time between researchers and key university research support staff. They will answer questions and advise on matters related to grants, facilitation, ethics, environmental health and safety, payroll and more.

“Improving research-grant support and administration was identified as a priority in our strategic directions consultations,” says Justin Powlowski, interim vice-president of Research and Graduate Studies.

“More effective management and administrative procedures free up researchers’ valuable time to actually do research, and we can help with that.”

Powlowski adds that it’s important to get feedback from researchers so that administrators can address issues and evolve their support mechanisms.

He notes that the research sector also depends heavily on interdepartmental collaborations with units such as Financial Services, Environmental Health and Safety and Human Resources, which continue to be streamlined.

Attend an upcoming research administration clinic at Concordia:

Tuesday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Room GE-110, Centre for Structural and Functional Genomics (7141 Sherbrooke St. W.), Loyola Campus

Wednesday, May 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the EV Atrium, Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex (1515 Ste. Catherine St. W.), Sir George Williams Campus
