Concordia is putting safety first with an update to the personal protective equipment policy (VPS-41).
“Work safety is everyone’s business,” says Pietro Gasparrini, director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). “Ensuring that all members of the university community from workers to students are properly equipped with appropriate personal protective equipment will prevent injuries.”
Expanding on the previous policy which highlighted protective eyewear, the VPS-41 now all encompassing covering protective footwear, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, head protection, fall protection, body and hand protection and even flotation devices.
In conjunction with the updated policy, EHS is launching a new safety awareness campaign focusing on this topic.
Compliance with Concordia’s internal requirements on the use of personal protective equipment is a challenge, suggests Gasparrini. He hopes this new campaign will make Concordians reflect on the importance of being appropriately protected.
“The health and well-being of all Concordians is tremendously important and our safety policies are a reflection of the value placed on safety at Concordia,” says Roger Côté, vice-president of Services.
