Sunday’s tragic and fatal shooting at a Quebec City Islamic centre has shocked and saddened us.

On behalf of the Concordia community, I’d like to extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives.

It is a tragedy that reverberates beyond the Muslim community and profoundly touches us all. We condemn this act of senseless violence that goes against our fundamental values of diversity, inclusion and openness.

Our thoughts are with members of the Muslim community, including our faculty, staff, students and graduates.

This morning, Concordia University lowered its flags to half-mast out of respect for the precious lives lost.

I encourage members of our community who may need support, in the wake of this tragedy, to reach out to our counsellors at 514-848-2424, ext. 3545 (Sir George Williams Campus) or at ext. 3555 (Loyola Campus), our Multi-Faith and Spirituality Centre, our International Students Office, or Tel-Aide, a 24/7 helpline for crisis and emotional distress, at 514-935-1101.
