Homa Hoodfar, Concordia professor emerita, has been released from Evin Prison in Iran after more than 100 days imprisonment. Media reports state that she is en route to Canada.

The Concordia community is relieved and looks forward to welcoming Dr. Hoodfar on her return.

The university is thankful that the tireless efforts of governments, diplomats, and colleagues across Canada and internationally were successful. The Concordia community – in particular faculty and staff members and unions – played a critical role in securing her release. This is a victory for academic freedom.

I would like to extend my personal best wishes to Dr. Hoodfar and her family and welcome her back to Montreal and Concordia.

Alan Shepard
President
