The Concordia University community was shocked and profoundly disturbed by the arrest in June of Homa Hoodfar, professor emerita, an academic with a world-wide reputation as a researcher and a respected member of the Concordia family.

The Government of Canada as well as her family, colleagues and numerous organizations have been working tirelessly to secure her release.

We have now received disturbing news that Dr. Hoodfar’s health has deteriorated after three months confinement and concerns for her safety and well-being are mounting.

Universities across the globe hold academic freedom as inherent to our existence.

We continue to support all efforts underway to secure Dr. Hoodfar’s return to Canada and we renew our call for the immediate release of our colleague.

Alan Shepard
President
