Message from the president about changes to Concordia's pension plan
On June 8, the Government of Quebec passed legislation outlining changes to pension plans for the university sector.
We’ve had opportunities to provide input during the process of the government’s drafting of this legislation, and each time we reaffirmed our commitment to maintaining our defined pension benefit plan while ensuring its financial sustainability.
We’ve had ongoing discussions about impending changes, based on various assumptions, with the members of our Pension Sustainability Forum. Created two years ago, this forum includes representatives from our employee and union groups.
We’ve shared information and sought their feedback on how to best address pension reform in order to minimize the impact on our employees and allow us to maintain a single defined benefit plan.
We are now reviewing the final text of the legislation and will have further discussions with the Pension Sustainability Forum. Following that, a proposal will be presented to the Employee Benefits Committee, which will then submit it to the Board of Governors in the fall for approval.
Stay tuned for more details through the NOW newsletter and on Cspace later this fall.
