In recent years, Concordia has seen a significant rise in philanthropic gifts, not to mention the size of these donations. To build on this momentum, and to support future campaigns, president Alan Shepard has asked Bram Freedman to fully embrace the role of vice-president of Advancement and External Relations, effective December 1, 2015.

Freedman has been doing double duty for the past two-and-a-half years, serving as both vice-president of Development and External Relations as well as Secretary-General.

“Bram has made significant strides in re-framing our alumni relations and advancement initiatives, including putting in place a top-notch leadership team and introducing many innovations that have resulted in a doubling of funds raised to support our academic mission,” explains Shepard.

“The time is right for Freedman to dedicate 100 per cent of his time and energy to reach our ambitious fundraising goals.”

As a result of this change in responsibilities, Frederica “Freddie” Jacobs will assume the role of Secretary-General and General Counsel for a five-year term beginning December 1, 2015. As well, Danielle Tessier will assume the role of Assistant Secretary-General in recognition of her valuable expertise and contributions to university governance during her years of service at the university.

“Freddie has been with Concordia for the last seven years after a 20-year career in private practice. She has worked closely with me and has done an excellent job. I am confident she is the right person for this expanded role,” says Shepard.

Jacobs will oversee offices that previously reported to Freedman, including Board and Senate Administration, Translation Services, Records Management and Archives as well as the Ombuds Office and the Office of Rights and Responsibilities. This is in addition to her current role as General Counsel.

Freedman will continue to oversee the offices of Urban and Cultural Affairs and Community Engagement as part of his advancement and external relations portfolio, which reflects his ongoing commitment to community service.

In late October, Freedman received the Distinguished Service Award from the Jewish Eldercare Centre/Donald Berman Maimonides Geriatric Centre for his many years of volunteerism in support of the two long-term care facilities.
