The Honorary Degree and Convocation Committee (HDCC), a joint Board/Senate committee, is asking members of the Concordia community to nominate potential honorary degree recipients.

All nominations for honorary degrees are screened by the HDCC and approved by the Board of Governors upon recommendation of Senate.

Nominations are welcome throughout the year, but in order to be considered by the committee this fall, they must be received by October 16, 2015.

A nominee should have sufficient stature and recognition to ensure that the awarding of an honorary degree brings credit to Concordia University, to the academic community as a whole and upholds the values that lead to the advancement of learning and to the pursuit of greater knowledge.

HDCC will review the nominations to ensure the candidates meet one or more of the following criteria: eminence in a field of activity or profession, outstanding public or community service, significant connection or benefaction to the university.

Honorary degrees will not be given to current members of the Board of Governors; their family members; current members of the Board of Directors; employees of the Concordia University Foundation, eConcordia or KnowledgeOne; or to current members of the Concordia community. Honorary degrees are usually not given to holders of public office.

Recent recipients of honorary doctorates include Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change; Kenneth Deer, journalist, educator and political activist; and Emanuele (Lino) Saputo, founder and chair of the Montreal-based dairy company Saputo Incorporated.

Before submitting a nomination, please read the Guidelines for the Awarding of Honorary Degrees.

The complete and signed form should be sent to Danielle Tessier, HDCC Secretary, preferably as an email attachment, to danielle.tessier@concordia.ca or by regular mail to:
