On May 7, Concordia is introducing Moodle 2.6, the latest version of its Learning Management System (LMS).

A LMS provides professors with a way to create and deliver content, monitor student participation, and assess student performance.

The upgrade will allow Moodle to run more efficiently in a wider range of software environments. There will, however, be a small window of downtime from 7 p.m. on May 6 to 8 a.m. on May 7.

8 great new Moodle features

Moodle 2.6 features a myriad of useful functions for Concordia professors. Here’s what’s new.

  1. Providing feedback to students will be a breeze, as faculty can review and make comments by directly annotating PDF files in a browser window.
  2. Editing tools have been grouped together in a simple drop-down menu for easy access across desktop and mobile devices.
  3. The text editor has new icons, and is expandable. There is also an improved folder and subfolder display.
  4. A new course format has been added that allows professors to make a course out of any single activity.
  5. Students will be able to submit an assignment in groups.
  6. Faculty members will have the option of sorting by last name in quiz-grading reports.
  7. Faculty members will be able to allow students to submit an assignment past the due date.
  8. Faculty members will be able to search for the students enrolled in a particular course.
