Norman Hébert, Jr. named chair of Concordia's Board of Governors

Concordia University is pleased to announce that on the recommendation of its Governance and Ethics Committee, Norman Hébert, Jr. has been named chair of the university’s Board of Governors for a three-year term to begin July 1, 2012.

“Norman Hébert, Jr. has been committed to Concordia for many years. He is well known in Quebec as a successful business leader as well as a highly engaged philanthropist,” says current Board Chair Peter Kruyt. “His leadership skills will be vital in Concordia’s continuing development as one of the top comprehensive universities in Canada.”

“I am very much looking forward to serving my alma mater in this new capacity,” says Hébert. “Our renewed board is eager to meet its oversight responsibilities in keeping with Concordia’s mission, vision and values and strategic direction.”

Hébert has been president and chief executive officer of Groupe Park Avenue Inc., one of Canada’s first multi-franchise automobile dealership operations, for more than 25 years. Now in his second term as chairman of the Board of Directors of the Société des Alcools du Québec, a position he has held since 2006, he was previously a board director at Hydro-Québec.

He served for six years as a member of the Advisory Board of the John Molson School of Business, and is currently vice-chair of Concordia’s Board. He has a Commerce degree from Concordia University and Law degree from the University of Ottawa. He is also a member of the Quebec Bar.

Hébert has led or contributed to a number of charitable organizations and initiatives, including eight consecutive years as co-chair and founder of Concordia’s annual golf tournament, which raises funds for student bursaries. He co-chaired the 2010 annual campaign for Centraide of Greater Montreal, and was president of its Major Donors’ Circle for several years. He is also currently co-chair of the capital campaign for the Hôpital Charles-Lemoyne Foundation.
