Liselyn Adams steps down as Concordia’s first Associate Vice-President, International, on December 31 when her second mandate ends. She will return to a teaching position in the Department of Music.

“William has extensive experience in developing international academic alliances and advising on institutional and provincial global strategies,” says Dandurand. “His innovative, tactful and dedicated work has positioned Concordia University as an international leader among Quebec universities.”

In addition to his duties at Concordia, Cheaib serves as a member on the board of the Canadian Bureau for International Education, where he recently chaired the Strategic Planning Committee. He has received recognition from the Association of International Educators for his contribution in advancing the internationalization of higher education.

Dandurand praised the outgoing Associate Vice-President, International, for her work in helping the university to increase its research partnerships worldwide. “Since accepting the position in 2005, Liselyn has worked tirelessly to develop strong international agreements, with an emphasis on developing targeted research partnerships. In doing so she has added structure to these partnerships and raised the international profile of Concordia.”

Adams also headed up the development of a new program, still in its pilot phase, called the International Profile. The program will allow graduates, who study abroad for a term and complete a list of other international qualifications, to graduate with the International Profile distinction.

Adams joined Concordia’s Department of Music in 1980 and has taught a wide variety of courses in music performance, theory and history. For several years, she coordinated the classical performance area and was appointed Graduate Program Director in 1992. Before she was appointed Associate Vice-President, International, Adams served as Associate Dean for the Faculty of Fine Arts, holding the Research, Graduate Studies and International Academic Relations portfolio.
