Starting this week, Concordia journalism student David Adelman is taking notes outside of class as he kicks off a weekly, “Campus Beat” blog to write about services, events, activities and opportunities available to students.

“The Concordia campuses are bustling with activity because of the myriad services the university offers. In September, we wanted to capture some of that energy through the Slice of Campus Life Photo Contest. Building on that momentum, we have invited David to share his first-person account of life on campus,” says Lucy Niro, Concordia’s director of web communications.

Housed in the Campus Beat section of NOW news and events, Adelman’s blog will cover a wide range of topics, from lectures to workshops to equipment demonstrations. In his first entry, Adelman writes about attending his first men’s and women’s Stingers hockey games and says he gained a newfound appreciation for athletics. The following week, he took part in the inauguration ceremony for the PEFORM Centre, where he was hooked up to a metabolic cart to monitor his heart and lungs.

“This pilot blog will thrive if Concordia community members submit comments and feedback. We would like to strike up meaningful conversations and engage with our readers,” adds Niro. “For example, readers can suggest topics for David to cover or become guest bloggers. This healthy exchange and dialogue will make his blog posts much more inclusive and interactive.”

Niro says as a part of the university’s growing social media program, the goal is to create more blogs from students, faculty members and administrators who could contribute their knowledge and expertise on academic or administrative topics.

Read David’s blog, and leave a comment to let him know what you think.
