“The Highway of the Atom,” the latest book by Concordia associate professor Peter C. van Wyck, has received the 2011 Gertrude J. Robinson Book Prize.

The award, which was presented in early June, is given annually by the Canadian Communication Association to recognize an outstanding contribution to the discipline of communication in Canada.

An associate professor in the Department of Communications Studies, van Wyck is also the Graduate Director of the MA in Media Studies program.

This is the second time van Wyck has been honoured by the association. His book, “Signs of Danger,” which focused on the government’s nuclear waste burial program in Carlsbad, New Mexico, received the 2005 prize.

“The Highway of the Atom,” released in November 2010, is published by McGill Queen’s University Press. The book explores the atom bomb's surprising and often-overlooked origins in the Canadian North.
