Several dozen people from across the Concordia community dropped by the 2011 Teaching with Technology Showcase organized by the Centre for Teaching and Learning Services (CTLS) on March 11.

“We wanted to create an opportunity for faculty to demonstrate and actually talk about some of the technologies they’re using in their teaching,” said John Bentley, Program Coordinator & Instructional Developer at CTLS.

Sixteen faculty members presented their favourite technological tools, programs or shortcuts for improving classroom activity and interaction.

The event was structured in short presentations and discussions (two sets repeated each hour) so that those present could pick and choose the presenters and information that most appealed to them.

“It was all done as quick bursts to help maximize participants’ exposure to different ideas, possibilities and themes in terms of innovative teaching,” said Bentley. “Before and after completing their presentations, speakers were free to visit other sessions on the day.”

The event was set up well in advance with support from David Ward, associate director of Lab 6 ½, with the Office of Research. Engineering undergraduate Gordon Bailey helped with a high-tech set-up of the presentation equipment.
