Bob Rae, Liberal Member of Parliament and Foreign Affairs Critic, will be discussing Canadian foreign policy as part of a lecture series organized by Concordia’s Alumni Relations office.

Previous speakers in the Henri Habib Distinguished Lecture Series on Peace, Conflict and Global Politics include former Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Lloyd Axworthy and former Canadian ambassador to the US Raymond Chrétien.

This year’s guest speaker will match that high standard. Rae will present “A Vision of Canadian Foreign Policy: Afghanistan, the Middle East and the World.” Rae was premier of Ontario from 1990 to 1995.

The lecture series honours Concordia Distinguished Professor Emeritus Henri Habib whose sterling reputation as an authority on Middle East politics is matched only by his former students’ regard for him as a political science professor. That’s why a group Concordia alumni and friends, led by Susan Raymer (L BA ’71) chose to honour their former professor in 2004 by creating the series.

Habib has been associated with Concordia for more than 50 years. He arrived in 1960 to teach political science at Loyola College, one of Concordia’s founding institutions. The next year, he founded Loyola’s Department of Political Science and served as its chair from 1961 to 1969, then as Concordia’s Political Science Department Chair from 1982 until his retirement in 1998. He was named Distinguished Professor Emeritus in 1999. He continues to lecture at Concordia.

The Henri Habib Distinguished Lecture will take place on Tuesday, February 8, 4 p.m.–5:30 p.m., at the D.B. Clarke Theatre in the Henry F. Hall Building, 1455 De Maisonneuve Blvd. W.

Admission is free and open to all, but space is limited so register early. RSVP by February 2. Register online, or by phone at 514-848-2424, ext. 4397, or toll free at 1-888-777-3330.
