Minister tours Grey Nuns property

Provincial Minister of Culture, Communications and the Status of Women Christine St. Pierre toured the Grey Nuns Motherhouse with representatives of Concordia and the order’s Mother Superior Cécile Castonguay to learn of development plans for the site.

Director of Facilities, Planning and Development Martine Lehoux presented the background on Concordia’s acquisition of the building and grounds, and plans for its eventual role as a home for the Faculty of Fine Arts. She stressed the university’s experience in the successful integration of heritage and religious buildings using projects undertaken on the Loyola Campus as examples.

“This was a unique opportunity to show the Minister our exciting vision for the use of this magnificent property,” said Associate Vice-President Government Relations Russell Copeman.

“Concordia has an excellent track record in the delivery of major projects. We can be confident in our ability to successfully transform the Motherhouse into a top-class addition to the Quartier Concordia.“

After the January 14 presentation, St. Pierre toured the site to see firsthand how it will be developed in coming years. This was the first opportunity St. Pierre had to visit the Motherhouse. In addition to Lehoux, she was accompanied by Chair of the Board of Governors Peter Kruyt, Provost David Graham, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts Catherine Wild, Acting Vice-President Services Roger Côté and Copeman.
