A Café Scientifique conversation: exploring how and why salt influences blood pressure

The World Health Organization has identified hypertension -- high blood pressure -- as the number one cause of death in the world.

While there are many different things that contribute to the development of high blood pressure, lifestyle is one of the key factors.

What we eat, especially the amount of salt (sodium) in our diet, has a significant impact on blood pressure.

Join Concordia professor Simon Bacon and a panel of experts for a special Café Scientifique conversation where they will explore how and why salt influences blood pressure, as well as what we can do to help reduce its effects.

The event will take place on Thursday, October 21, from 7 to 9 p.m., on the eleventh floor of the Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex (1515 Ste. Catherine St. W.). Admission is free.

The panel will include moderator Anne Lagacé Dowson, Radio Host for CJAD 800; Simon Bacon, Associate Professor of Exercise Science at Concordia and Co-Director of the Montreal Behavioural Medicine Centre; and Luc Trudeau, Assistant Professor of Medicine at McGill University, Division of Internal Medicine, and Associate Director, Cardiovascular Prevention Center, Jewish General Hospital.
