Influx of asylum-seekers from U.S.
Montreal’s Olympic stadium has been transformed into a shelter to respond to a surge in refugee applicants who have recently arrived in Quebec. Many are Haitians who have been living in the United States and who are fearful about the Trump administration’s limits on immigration and threats to expel people who have not obtained legal status there.
Political scientist Mireille Paquet has a keen eye on U.S. Canada relations and the cross-border impact of policies developed by each country as the William Lyon Mackenzie King Postdoctoral Fellow of the Canada Program at Harvard University’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs.
