Experts in cybersecurity are warning of the risk of a new wave of damage when workers switch on their computers for the first time following last Friday’s ransomware attack. The U.K.’s National Health System was the principal target of the cyberattack where hackers demanded sums of money to allow computer systems to function after being disabled. The attack, dubbed “WannaCry” also affected a number of other systems across Europe. Mourad Debbabi, a professor in the Concordia Institute for Information Systems Engineering, can outline the risks of ransomware and related cyberattacks and suggest measures institutions can take to protect against them.
