The 89th annual Academy Awards show will be held in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 26. Last year's ceremony took place in the midst of criticism the U.S. film industry is failing to produce movies that reflect cultural diversity. The hashtag #OscarsSoWhite gained significant traction and led film scholar Matt Hays from the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema to consider how it could become relevant once again. Hays can assess this year's Oscar contenders.
