Expert commentators

Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:

  • André Gagné, associate professor in the Department of Theological Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science, and Marc-André Argentino, PhD candidate in the same department, co-author a piece in The Conversation Canada about ISIS. Gagné and Argentino analyze the methods used by the Islamic State to build loyalty even as it suffers a series of setbacks in its ground battles to secure a caliphate. The piece is reprised by The Middle East North Africa Financial Network and has been linked by TrumpFranchise.org.
  • Jennifer Drummond, coordinator of the Sexual Assault Resource Center (SARC) at Concordia, talks to Global News Montreal (video and text) about Bill 151. The bill is newly proposed legislation that will require all Quebec universities and CEGEPs to create codes of conduct regarding sexual violence on campus. Drummond, first appearing at the 33-second mark, explains that Concordia currently has such a code in place and says the university is looking into provisions of the proposed law regarding intimate relations between students and faculty.
  • Jim Pfaus, psychology professor in the Faculty of Arts and Science, is quoted in an article in La Presse about the anticipated return of sex education in Quebec classrooms. He is critical of sex education manuals that fail to fully represent the human clitoris.
  • Science, writing about efforts at the European Space Agency (ESA) to design a vehicle for Martian ground exploration, quotes Krzysztof Skonieczny, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering in the Faulty of Engineering and Computer Science.
  • Calgary's 660 News (text) quotes Moshe Lander, economics lecturer in the Faculty of Arts and Science, in a piece that examines the possible financial and economic impact of building a new NHL hockey arena in Calgary.
