Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:

  • Lynda Clark, professor in and interim chair of the Department of Religions and Cultures in the Faculty of Arts and Science, and Afra Jalabi, a doctoral candidate in the same department, co-author an opinion piece in the Montreal Gazette (reprised by The Province) in which they criticize the Quebec government for passage of Bill 62 and its ban on face coverings, including the face veils worn by some Muslim women. 
  • The National Post reprises a piece from The Conversation Canada, written by Harold Chorney, professor in the Department of Political Science in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Chorney reflects on the election of Valérie Plante as mayor of Montreal. The article is also picked up by Life in Québec.
  • Chantal Maillé, professor in the Simone de Beauvoir Institute in the Faculty of Arts and Science, participated in a discussion on the Radio-Canada program, 'Plus on est de fous, plus on lit!' of the life and work of of eighteenth century feminist and author Mary Wollstonecraft. 
  • Fenwick McKelvey, assistant professor of communication studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science, talks to Radio-Canada (text only) about Donald Trump's Twitter account and his use of the social media platform over the 365 days since his election to the U.S. presidency.
  • The one-year anniversary of the Trump election is discussed by a panel on City Montreal's 'Breakfast Television' that includes Graham Dodds, associate chair of and associate professor in the Department of Political Science in the Faculty of Arts and Science. The discussion is posted in two parts: one and two. Dodds guested on the Aaron Rand Show on CAD yesterday evening (no link available) for a discussion of the Trump election one-year anniversary.
  • Gilbert Tordjman (BSc 89), executive director of Advancement Services at Concordia, appears in a Global News Montreal report (at the 2:02 mark) about a new support service for Canadian military veterans. Tordjman, who served in Canada's Army Reserves, is noted in the Concordia community as an organizer of a community event to raise funds in support of Concordia's Veterans Student Aid.
  • The Montreal Gazette runs a story about sexual assault centres and help lines, and quotes Jennifer Drummond, coordinator of the Sexual Assault Resource Center (SARC) at Concordia, who says many assault survivors who are now reaching out for help have been moved to action by celebrity assault survivors who have gone public in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein revelations.
