Students

Current students at Concordia do outstanding academic work and get involved in community projects that improve our quality of life. See what they've been up to:

  • The National Observer writes about the investigative journalism project, 'The Price of Oil', involving Concordia and other university journalism students, led by Patti Sonntag, New York Times managing editor, visiting Concordia lecturer and Concordia alumna. The investigative piece centers on fracking and other operations at oil wells in Saskatchewan.  The article is part of a series of eight news and opinion pieces, which are found here.
  • Concordia student (communication studies) and actor Léa Roy is featured in Le Journal de Montréal.
  • Le Journal de Montréal writes that the Coalition régionale étudiante de Montréal (CREM), which includes Concordia student groups, is asking that candidates in Montreal's mayoral elections support CREM's demand for youth representation on the boards of certain municipal and paramunicipal organizations, such as the Montreal arts council, the Société du parc Jean-Drapeau and Bixi Montreal.
  • A Venezuelan Concordia student, identified only as 'Fernando', talks to Radio Canada television news (video, at the 32-second mark, text version reprised by Sympatico) about the Venezuelan government's move to block international transfers of money, which the news report indicates is creating a difficult situation for numerous Venezuelans studying in Quebec. Fernando, working on his engineering PhD at Concordia, tells the reporter that the university is helping him, with employment as a researcher and with legal assistance.
  • Le Journal de Montréal (behind a paywall) says the Concordia Stingers, Université de Montréal Carabins and Université de Sherbrooke Vert et Or football teams will appeal a decision by the RSEQ, the Quebec university sport governing body, to cancel a recent game between the Stingers and the Carabins. The RSEQ cancelled the game, which it did not reschedule, following an outbreak of gastroenteritis among Carabins players and staff.
  • The Chronicle Journal reports on a pre-season hockey game between the Concordia Stingers men's team and the Lakehead University Thunderwolves, in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The Stingers lost, 3-2.
