In her transdisciplinary artistic practice, Hannah Claus engages Onkwehon:we epistemology to highlight ways of understanding and being in relation with the world. A 2019 Eiteljorg Fellow, current group exhibitions include Blurring the Line (Eiteljorg Museum; Indianapolis), Inaabiwin (Ottawa Art Gallery), Future Retrospectives (Harbourfront Gallery; Toronto) and Àbadakone (National Gallery of Canada; Ottawa). Her solo exhibition, “trade – treaty – territory” (Dunlop Art Gallery; Regina) opens in January 2020. Claus’ installations belong to various public collections, such as the National Gallery of Canada, the Eiteljorg Museum, North American Native Museum (Zurich, SZ), the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the City of Montreal. She completed her undergraduate studies (Drawing and Painting) at the Ontario College of Art and Design (1998) and her Master of Fine Art (Studio Arts – Fibres) at Concordia University (2004). Claus is a member of the Tyendinaga Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte. She lives in Tiohtià:ke [Montreal].
