Reclining Rat, 40 x 60 inches, Laser engraved Woodcut, 2018

JANUARY 8 - MARCH 2, 2019
VERNISSAGE SATURDAY, JANUARY 12 AT 2PM

“RatKind” is a futuristic dystopia. The series proposes a different "kind" than humankind. It offers up an implausible future where primal fears and prejudices are overcome. Imagine a future in which an alternative form of community has evolved, a more inclusive, accepting society, where what was once considered loathsome and fearful is now beautiful, where skin speaks, and all forms of intelligence are welcome. RatKind strives towards a sustainable future, knowing that it might be too late, the damage too deep. It mourns the passing of an almost incomprehensible past in which the phrase "rat race" was both a curse and an accurate description of the 20th and 21st Centuries' most common lifestyle.

The laser engraved woodcuts of this series were the product of many months of experimentation with the support of Concordia University's DIGIFAB LAB (Concordia's digital fabrication lab) and the Atelier A. Piroir's printing facilities.
