Nicolas Roy, a CART Major grad, is part of the team that just won the Golden Nica for Animation at Ars Electronica!


The Winners 2019

3,256 projects from 82 countries were submitted to the 2019 Prix Ars Electronica! For more than 4 days, the 20-person Prix jury was responsible for reviewing all installations, performances, animations, sound experiments, concepts and visions and selecting the best among them. The "Artificial Intelligence & Life Art" category, which was announced for the first time, immediately received 840 submissions. 

The winners of this year's Prix Ars Electronica come from Canada, the USA and Austria: Kalina Bertin, Sandra Rodriguez, Nicolas S. Roy, Fred Casia (all CA) will receive the Golden Nica in the Computer Animation category for "Manic VR". The US-American Paul Vanouse can be happy about the very first Golden Nica for Artificial Intelligence & Life Art for "Labor". Austrian Peter Kutin won the category Digital Musics & Sound Art with "TORSO #1".

In the area u19 - CREATE YOUR WORLD a total of 24 prizes were awarded - the Golden Nica went to Alex Lazarov with his 5-part web series "Dschungel".

This year, the Golden Nicas will be solemnly presented on Thursday, September 5, 2019, as part of the grand opening event of the Ars Electronica Festival. A selection of the Prix Ars Electronica's best works will traditionally be presented in the CyberArts Show at OK OÖ Kulturquartier, while the winners will again be discussing their artistic perspectives and projects in the Prix Forums.
