It’s official – Concordia is one the world’s best universities to study art and design.

According to the 2018 QS World University Rankings by Subject (WURS), released on February 28, Concordia ranked among the top 100 art and design universities.

Out of 1,130 institutions worldwide, Concordia ranked 51 - 100 in the QS Art and Design category. That’s a one hundred place jump in a year and nearly two hundred places in two years.

“This Faculty is on fire! Every day I'm reminded of why the world needs the kind of thought and action we generate: we think about what it means to inhabit this planet with grace, we pose radical questions that deploy all the senses, we toggle constantly between the material and immaterial -- and we do so with humour and conviction and joy," says Rebecca Duclos, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts.

“Every time our extraordinary faculty and students go out into the world, their generosity of spirit feeds directly into Concordia’s reputation. We produce stellar work and our peers have recognized that.”

'Securing our reputation among the world’s best schools'

Only three other Canadian institutions ranked beside us in this category: Emily Carr University of Art and Design, University of British Columbia, and the University of Toronto.

QS scored Concordia University in 39 subjects based on academic reputation, employer reputation and citations per faculty. Art and Design was seen as Concordia’s strongest category by a long shot – the only one to break the top 100.

“As Concordia secures its place as Canada’s next-generation university, we‘re also securing our reputation among the world’s best schools,” says Graham Carr, provost and vice-president of Academic Affairs.

“We’re making excellent progress on our strategic directions, especially in terms of our teaching and research achievements. This is being noticed around the world which is a big reason why we continue to make our mark in international rankings.”
