New graduate study space provides the ultimate getaway

Given that March is more than halfway over, it’s time to hunker down to prepare for every student’s favourite time of year: finals.

For Fine Arts graduate students, this can mean a myriad of things from critiques and thesis defenses, to performances and exhibitions. But whatever the medium, end-of-term outcomes are right around the corner….and the pressure is on!

Just in time to help master’s and doctoral students make one last push to the finish line comes the re-opening of a fabulous recently-renovated and completely private area: the Fine Arts graduate students study space, located on the 6th floor of the Faubourg Building.

Equipped with a private lounge with a large study area, a kitchenette and conference room and a privacy room, the sleek and modern facilities provide grad students with the ultimate getaway from the hustle-and-bustle of Concordia’s downtown campus.

Says Fine Arts Dean Rebecca Duclos of the new study space: “Whether they are in a PhD, MA or MFA stream, graduate students have made a significant, personal choice to commit years of their lives to the pursuit of an advanced degree at Concordia. Many of the students talk about a strong need to build a community and a network while they are here, and express desire for interchange across programs and amongst colleagues.

“In making a space for doctoral, and now master’s students, to meet one another, write in the quiet of the beautiful reading room, book private conference rooms for discussion and meetings, and share a communal kitchen, the 6th floor space will become an even more welcoming and inclusive home for our students.”

The main area in student study space is open to all Fine Arts graduate students on a first-come, first served basis. The conference room can be reserved both onsite and online.

For more information on the new space, visit the Student life section of the Fine Arts website.
