Soaring to greater heights - MIE gets a new name

Welcome to the Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Aerospace Engineering (MIAE).

Today, we recognize aerospace as an important part of Concordia and The Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science’s praxis.

“The Department (formerly Mechanical and Industrial Engineering) has been involved with Aerospace teaching and research for many years. Now that we have launched a BEng Aerospace we have decided to add it to the Department‘s name,” says Martin Pugh, Chair of MIAE.

As Pugh notes, MIAE has researchers engaged every facet of aerospace research, from concept and design to implementation and testing.

Last year, the Department opened its doors to undergraduate students keen to become the next-generation of aerospace experts with a BEng program.

The BEng took off! Students have gained hands-on experience in designing airplane components, building helicopters and working in real industry settings through a variety of inter-institutional, governmental and industrial relationships.

The program also meets an industry need for more qualified aerospace professionals in Montreal, one of the largest international aerospace hubs.

“Many in the Montreal area have known of our interaction with Aerospace. The Department name change recognizes those local partnerships and will also raise our national and international profile,” says Pugh.
