The Maimonides from Montreal: Rabbi Nachum Rabinovitch

On Monday March 20, 2017 at 7:30pm, the Institute for Canadian Jewish Studies presents a lecture by Professor Allan Nadler (Drew University) on "The Maimonides from Montreal: Rabbi Nachum Rabinovitch".

This lecture will provide a broad introduction to the life and thought of Montreal-born Israeli Rabbi Nachum Rabinovitch, who recently completed a comprehensive commentary on Maimonides' Mishneh Torah, Yad Peshuta (19 volumes). In addition, Rabinovitch has published several volumes of responsa (including She'elot u-Teshvot Melumadei Milchama, that deals with halakhic issues facing soldiers in the IDF). His collection of essays, Mesilot Bilvavam, articulates a vision of how the State of Israel can be fully democratic and fully Jewish.

Allan Nadler completed his PhD at Harvard University. He served as rabbi of Congregation Shaar Hashomayim for 11 years, before taking on the Research Directorship of the YIVO Institue for Jewish Research. Since 1998, Nadler has been professor of Religious Studies and Director of Jewish Studies at Drew University, in Madison, NJ. He is the author of The Faith of the Mitnagdim and has published numerous scholarly articles and more than 100 reviews along with essays on Jewish thought in Commentary and The New Republic.

This lecture is one in a series of Institute Public Lectures Sponsored by the Marvin A. Drimer Foundation.
