Announcements

On 28 September Dr. James Orbinski was presented with the Loyola Medal, Concordia University’s highest non-academic award. Dr. Orbinski is a long-time humanitarian and human rights activist, and the former International President of Medecins Sans Frontieres, who accepted the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the organization.
 
Non-Resident Fellow Dr. Mario Silva published a new book, titled Privacy versus Security in the Age of Global Terror (Mosaic Press).

MIGS, along with 87 other human rights NGOs, launched an urgent appeal to the United Nations and the UN Security Council to put pressure on Myanmar to stop the crimes against humanity the against Rohingya people.

Nicolai Pogadl participated in a Tech Against Terrorism workshop, held at the offices of Facebook in New York.

September 20

Nicolai Pogadl participated a Tech Against Terrorism Event at the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism at the United Nations. The event was covered by the New York Times.

Latin America Fellow Andrei Serbin Pont moderated the panel “Challenges of the Indo-Pacific” at an event held by the Coordinadora Regional de Investigaciones Economicas y Sociales (CRIES) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, titled, Latin America facing the New World Order and the Crisis of Globalization.
