Kabar.kg, Privately-owned media, 29 June 2015. "SBS KR: There was a skirmish between the border of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan outfits"

  • According to preliminary information, Uzbek border security forces opened fire on Kyrgyz security forces after words were exchanged between the two parties.
  • The incident is still under investigation

 

24.kg, State-owned media, 25 June 2015. "Uzbek President has asked Secretary-General Ban-Ki-moon to promote the legal assessment of the June 2010 events in South Kyrgyzstan"

  • The Uzbek president has said that this is not an issue that needs to be resolved for the sake of Kyrgyz and Uzbek ethnic groups. Understanding ethnic relations is important to the region as a whole.
  • In 2010, Uzbekistan sheltered approximately 110 000 asylum seekers during the conflict in southern Kyrgyzstan, many of whom are still displaced.

  • This demand was made in an open letter to the parliamentary speaker.
  • There is currently a movement in Kyrgyzstan to have a referendum to lift the moratorium on changing the Constitution until 2020.
  • They fear that constitutional changes could lead to the usurpation of power by politicians.

  • Sariev cited the work of some Western political scientists who have said that the revolutionary activities in Ukraine could spill over into Kyrgyzstan during the next election, which is scheduled for fall 2015.
  • This, he warns, could ignite conflicts in the region as a whole.

  • The Kyrgyz were illegal immigrants being held on a farm in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in unsanitary and unhealthy conditions.
  • The government of Kazakhstan has opened an investigation at the request of the Kyrgyz government.
