What is Google Games?
Google Games is a fun annual day-long event where teams compete against other students from McGill University, Concordia University, Ecole de Technologie Supérieure, Ecole Polytechnique de Montréal, University of Montréal, University of Quebec (Montréal), and Sherbrooke University in coding, puzzles and word association games. What started in Mountain View 10 years ago has now grown to 13 locations and 18 events across North America. For our 10 year anniversary, the theme is “Top Secret Mission,” so make sure to throw on your best gear from your favorite spy lab and get ready for an action packed event!
Here’s what you’ll need to do by April 5th, 2017
- Assemble a team of five first, second and/or third year students from your school (having a CS background is strongly recommended).
- Pick a team name and register (each team member must register individually).
- Check out the details and FAQs below
Q. Can we have fewer than five members on our team?
A. We strongly recommend having the maximum number of members – any less and you'll lose your competitive edge.
Q. Do you have to be a current student to participate?
A. Yes, you must be a first, second or third-year undergraduate student currently enrolled at Concordia. Seniors and graduate students are not eligible to participate.
Q. Can we replace a member before the start of the event?
A. Sure. Just let us know via email@example.com. Be sure to include: the full name and email of the new team member, the full name of who is being replaced, your school name and your team name.
Q. Should our team wear costumes?
A. Show your team's spirit however you choose: costumes, uniforms, team dance, team flag or poster, cheer, fight song, etc. A prize will be awarded to the team with the most spirit.
Q. Will transportation be provided?
A. Your mission starts with getting yourselves to Google Montréal! We encourage carpooling (a slick way to travel), as parking is only available in nearby city lots. Or use your stealthy public transportation skills and catch a ride on the Métro to Google Montréal. The McGill Métro stop is a quick 5min walk away from Google!
Q. Will food be provided?
A. We will provide lunch, snacks and drinks. If you have any dietary restrictions, please note this in the form and we will be sure to accommodate you.
Q. When will our team receive a confirmation about the Games?
A. After the registration deadline, we will reach out to confirm team selection and provide more details. Not all registered teams will be selected due to space limitations.
Q. Do I need to bring my own laptop?
A. It will give your team a competitive advantage to have all members work from their own laptop in the challenges. If you don’t have your own, see if you can borrow one from a friend. And don’t forget the charger!
