Strategies for Motivating Students
Do you have difficulty getting students to come to class? Do you find students slipping away as your course progresses? Have you tried some motivational strategies but are seeing little effects? If you feel frustrated with students’ lack of engagement with class activities and the subject matter at large, this workshop might be just what you need. Using the ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence and Satisfaction) model developed by John Keller as a theoretical framework, this workshop will provide some research-supported strategies to optimize student motivation. The interactive design will make sure to capitalize on your collective teaching experience as well as research findings on why some students are poorly motivated, how to match instructional strategies with different student motives, and how to build motivational strategies into course design and teaching.
