Canadian Arabic Orchestra "Roots"
The concert is called “Roots” with 34 performers on stage (19 musicians, 14 choirsits, and a conductor). Once it was first introduced in 2017, it was comprised of 20-25 performers, however, after updating the music material and developing the program further, we increased the number of performers to 34. With that being said, we are fortunate to have a group of extremely talented artists which would allow us to be flexible with the number of performers and still come out with a beautiful concert.
The concert is a performance made up of classical Arabic songs which celebrate earth, water, sun and nature and how people are connected to their lands through these elements. This concert has a strong educational component because during the performance, the Music Director, and pianist of the Orchestra, addresses the audience between musical pieces. She highlights the significance of certain aspects of each piece in the form of a narrative touching on its history, musical arrangement and lyrics.
We will be touring Roots to various parts in Canada which may not always have access to this art form. Not only will the audience become more aware of Arabic culture and art, the performers who are made up of Canadians, newcomers and refugees to Canada will become more enriched as well by performing in different cities and to new audiences. The performance focuses on the message that Arabic culture is an intrinsic component of Canadian heritage and foster a sense of citizenship to our multicultural Canadian heritage
