This two-day workshop will introduce the participants to qualitative interviews, from their theoretical and philosophical underpinnings to practical considerations in interview data generation and outlining approaches to interview analysis. The emphasis of the workshop will be on interview skills, which will be provided through practical training in designing, conducting and analyzing qualitative interviews.
Theoretical discussion will cover philosophical assumptions, methodological underpinnings, ethics and reflexivity in interview research. Different types of interviews will be introduced, followed by practical considerations and training in research strategies, including sampling, gaining access, designing questions and achieving breadth and depth in an interview process. Most common approaches to interview data analysis will be outlined. The course will conclude with critical reflection on interview method, including its strengths, limitations and quality of interview data.
