Our University of the Streets Café public conversations are much like any you’d have with friends or family around a dinner table, except with more people, more points of view, and slightly more structure. Conversations are hosted by a volunteer moderator who is there to welcome everyone and keep things on track. To get things started, there’s a guest, or sometimes two, who get the ball rolling by sharing their ideas, experiences and questions. After that, it's all up to the participants.

As we age, how do we share a community with those who come before and after us and how can we best integrate other generations in our sense of self and the sort of legacy we want to leave behind? Does cross-generational discourse facilitate active change and an improved quality of life? This public conversation will consider how we foster collaboration across experience. If it does indeed “take a village”, how can the various generations that make up this village be recognized for their respective contributions?

Guest:
Anna Jane McIntyre is a visual artist, mother and educator with a practice combining traditional and experimental printmaking, sculpture, performance, people watching, storytelling, installation, costume and micro-activism. McIntyre's love of the complexity of being human has resulted in a fascination with cultural theory. Her artistic language is a constantly evolving mashup of Caribbean, British and Canadian cultural traditions. She lives and works in Montréal.

Moderator:
Laura Cardenas is a creative and solutions-driven individual who is eager to find new opportunities that contribute to a more sustainable community. Following her collegiate studies in Business Administration, she is currently adding to her academic background a bachelor’s diploma in Industrial Relations at McGill University. Being raised in Colombia and having a cross-cultural communication skills drag her interest towards social initiatives in the developing world.
