How might a basic income for all affect you and your communities? What would an empowering version of basic income look like here in Quebec?

Local Montrealers, artists, researchers, and advocates are coming together for a creative conversation about basic income, organized in partnership with Revenu de Base Quebec and the University of the Streets Café at Concordia: a participatory series that seeks to reinvent the idea of the university by creating spaces for lifelong learning, critical thinking, and community engagement in local neighborhoods.

***All are welcome at this free event which will consist of a short moderated discussion about basic income among panelists and attendees, a poster jam, and networking opportunities.***

We'll be joined by a few local thinkers including:

Jonathan Brun, Revenu de Base Quebec organizer, cofounder of Nimonik, Montreal Ouvert and Quebec Ouvert, and Canadian President of Open North.

Debbie Mankovitz, a litigation lawyer in Montreal who works on social justice.

Jamie Robinson, employee of Concordia's Off-Campus Housing and Job Bank. She has worked in the community sector for over a decade, including working with people with disabilities, with youth employment, housing, food security, and with persons with disabilities.

Christine Beckett, PhD, Associate Professor + Coordinator of the BFA Major in Music (MUSI) Music Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Concordia University. Organizer of the Music Research Talks Series of Concordia Music Department BRAMS lab (International Laboratory for Brain, Music, & Sound).

Jamie Klinger conducted and publicized a personal basic income experiment after living on $11,000 and documenting his expenses over the course of 2014. He is an advocate for alternative economic education and systems, including JoatU--the Jack of All Trades Universe--which he founded in late 2012.

Maryanna Hardy is a visual artist and Bunz Trading Zone Mtl founder and community director.

The conversation will be moderated by Risa Dickens, Yelp Montreal Community Manager and Concordia Media Studies MA alumni, and Alex Megelas, Programs and Communications Coordinator at the Office of Community Engagement, Concordia University Concordia.

We'll also be joined by local artists including Shane Watt, a semi-fictional cartographer, and Brad Woodfin, internationally exhibited painter and printmaker, who through drawing and collage will help animate a poster jam: a visual brainstorm to create images to be shared to help further the conversation about ending poverty.

There will be a table dedicated to sharing flyers and pamphlets for community organizations and creative events, please feel free to bring materials that promote what you are working on!
